Buying....
Trying to figure a cheaper way of getting it into Canada without paying so much brokerage fees, duties, pst, gst etc.
Why do the americans have it so good compared to us Canadians?
They order something off the internet and what they see is what they pay.

I saw ur car a few time in Sauga, that's seriously one nice looking car, and I thought all E39 M5's had 3.45 rear diff?

Thanks!
The M5 has a 3.15 diff.
Dinan carries the 3.45 diff which helps the acceleration.
BTW, on my previous 540-6 which came with 2.82 diff, when I changed it to the 3.15, the car felt MUCH faster but I lost 1 mpg in the process mostly due to the fun factor increasing.
When I put the old 2.82 diff back when I sold the car, the car actually felt sluggish!

Just out of curiousity, what did you do with the old 3:15 diff? If you still have it,i may be interested in it if you are looking at getting rid of it.

That was sold very quickly to someone from this board.
That is the best bang for the buck mod for the 540 by far.
Cost was under $500 and the car felt like it had another 30hp.

Tell the shipper (seller) you will act as your own customs broker and provided you have a bill of laiden (invoice) and ID, you should have no problem picking it up in Fort Erie. This should automatically stop the package from getting picked up by UPS in Canadian Customs and delivering it to you. If you ask me... The whole setup is a scam and I'm sure someone gets a cut of the whole concept.
Dave,
This won't avoid your having to pay gst or customs, but the brokerage fee shouldn't be there... Another thing, if the invoice has a company name on the receivers side, it may also help you at the border with part of the taxes. I believe I did not pay the PST.
Anyway, thats what I did.
Brokerage fee, duty, gst, customs fee, were going to shaft you because we can fee, ... WTF?
Just a PITA driving all the way down to Niagara Falls in the winter....

The brokerage fee for items around $1500 is around $80 so it's not worth it to spend half a day driving to Ft Erie and back.
Heck, the gas alone would be $30-40.
It's the small items that I am pissed with paying $20 brokerage on a $30 item.
It's alot better to have them send small items by U S post.
Canada post usually charges a handling fee of $4-5.
Boy this is really o/t!
