E46 330ci Brake upgrade

I know some one on here has done this on their 318ti.
Just wanting an update on how they work??

And also, where have all the old posts gone!!!
Are they archived somewhere??
There was some good stuff in there, shame if it has all been deleted!!

Don't waste your time or money unless you plan to track your car.

Heavier steering without any performance difference.

I disagree.

My steering is the same as before. The brakes grab right away, it is especially noticable on the highway (I can actually make a direct comparison since my other ti has stock brakes). On the highway at 100+km/h if I apply the brakes the car slows down instantly, while with the stock ones there is a bit of a delay.

The only negative things about 330 brakes is

a) 17" wheels
b) If you are tracking the car you might want to run slightly more agressive pads in the rear to even out the brake distribution.

Also just recently a fellow BMWCC club member test drove my car (the guy is a frequent BMW track school/autocross participant), and his first words when he applied the brakes were: "Holy $hit!!! This car brakes!!!...".

Absolutely. "To each his own" as they say.

The old pads were OEM, the new pads are OEM as well. The ti with stock brakes has also OEM pads.

Sorry for the OT. Would you guys think the 330 brakes would work as well on a 328iS as it does with the ti ?

wasabi, I dont think there will be any drastic change over 328 brakes compare to 318s. Nothing was worse then 318 breaks.

There should be some improvements but not as much as in 318ti's case. But come to think of it, 330 have real amazing breaks..so...I dont know.

jpropane: it is for my Twin turbo E30, I plan on doing the E36 suspension swap and was wondering if the 330ci brakes were any good or if I should build my own again using C5 corvette discs & the porsche brembo's (I thought this might be a bit OTT).

KIRASIR: Do you get any warping of the rotors when stopping from +100mph, this was my main concern with only 25mm thick rotors.

I'll put it this way.

328x25mm rotors are HUGE! Regular stock 318/325/328 rotors are 286x22mm, and even they don't warp when stopping from 100mph+. There is no way you can warp these rotors on the street. If somehow one warps them on the street then this person shouldn't be driving in the first place. On the track, it's a different story.

Regular 318ti 12mm disks were/are a problem. This is why in 98 all 98+ 318ti were converted to use regular e36 rotors.

So to answer your question: No, not at all on the streets (I haven't been to the track yet).

Thanks for that KIRASIR, I look forward to an update when you've been on the track.

What size MC does the 318ti have??
Is the pedal solid or is there a bit of travel with the 330ci calipers??
I have the 25mm E32 750il MC in my E30, just wondering how they will feel, should be OK.
