Where to find the VIN sticker on cars Made in Germany

I am trying to find the location of the VIN sticker on my 96 318TDS (Imported from Germany), checked the usual spots, door frame windshield etc with no luck. Any ideas? Insurance company is on my case to send them a pic as they can't find the VIN on their system

Thanks

did you look on the passenger side below the windshield? (rain gutter area?) My friend's eurospec 328's VIN was there.

Yeah, they put them on passenger side pretty often in Europe, a lot of countries have mandatory insurance sticker that goes there, so it's easy for cops to check both at once when they pull you over, and that from the safe (curb) side of the road! So brilliant...

Makes sense, I knew there would be some genius logic behind the location, just like everything else on these cars
