e30 acts like a retard when cold

Hey guys, this has been happening a lot lately. Ill let the car sit for like an hour, come back fire it up put it indrive, and for the first couple mins she will hang in first gear until she warms up a lil then drops into second and shifts totally fine and acts as if nothing happened and shifts perfectly. Any ideas? It sounds like a transmission issue to me but some have said mayabe catylitic converter? Car has 190k

Thanks

check your fluid level man...if it's low you won't get enough hydrolic pressure built up in the valve body. I had this problem with my cabrio in the winter. it wouldn't shift out of 1st unless I really hammered the gas. Could have slipping issue.

You may want to get some additive to possibly correct the problem. Usually they don't work but it's cheaper then removing it time wise and throwing another auto in. Might as well go 5sp at that point.

however, I have a low k (140) working auto available cheap if you so choose to take yours out.

pm me if you're interested. thx.

hey brother, how much would you charge for tranny? I think second gear is on its way out. Put in 2 and hit gas and rpm jumped to like 5000 rpm for a brief second.
Im frankly terrified of transmission issues. Are you able to help me install? thakns

when i bought my car it would hang in first as well, for a 10 minutes or so until the car warmed up, even with fluids o.k.
Solenoids were done and not maintaing pressure/building it at all until it was all warmed up - either grab another auto, or if you've got some time, get it over to 5spd
