New ODBDII Ontario Emission Test
Hey all, not really new to the BMW world but got my account fixed now
Curious to know how many of you are having issues with the new ODBDII drive clean tests. I did not have a good experience at all. Car failed as catalyst was not ready and evap system not ready and left to do a lot of digging for the right info.
See an interesting article below.

I almost lost a potential car that I wanted to buy do to this darn test. I didn't want to buy it and be stuck with it if it didn't pass. I bought a odbdII reader and got the manufacture drive cycle test which it worked but what a pita !
Mine was a pcar but BMW cycle worked ! After 4 failed emissions tests and a lot of driving by seller.
Start engine, idle cold for approx. 2 min, 10 secs.
Accelerate to 20-30 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 3 min, 15 secs.
Accelerate to 40-60 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 15 mins.
Decelerate and come to a stop. Idle in gear for approx 5 mins.
Following the start engine phase the sequence of test conditions may interchange.
routine will be discontinued whenever:
Engine speed exceeds 3000 RPM
Large fluctuations in throttle angle
Road speed exceeds 60 MPH

This sounds like the USA CA thing, they read codes to see whats dead (which i think is bad) if theres no snog out the tail pipe (with the sensor) then it should pass as lets face it thats what counts.
I vote equal opportunities for cars

This new system is a pure JOKE. I had to deal with it first hand over the last two weeks, and its just sad how many problems still exist. The people doing the testing dont know what is going on, the people renewing the stickers dont know what is going on, i just felt hopeless...

I work at a shop in mid town, i know what you mean.. but the ppl dont take care of there cars...
the NOT READY could even be a loss of power and a boost can reset all the 11 monitors in the pcm, so you have to run the car so the drive cycle resets.

NEW UPDATE, if the car fails on "not ready", you take the car for a minimum of 24 hours and drive a minimum of 30km. after you do this you bring the car back for a half price re-test ($17.50 + tax). if it is "not ready" again, you can get a conditional pass included in the half price re-test cost. and YES this also ok to do for vhicle transfer, it just does a 2 speed idle test in that case.

One more proof that nobody knows what is going on with this system!
On the paper i got (two weeks ago) it clearly states that "the conditional pass is valid for ONE year, on renewal (not tranfer) ONLY.
2 hours later, at the DMV, i got issued a 2 YEAR sticker!!!
WTF....
This is the biggest FAIL in government systems in a LONG time!!!!

I thought this was standard.... I was told this when I imported my car.
You only need a "valid" emissions pass to get the 2 year sticker, it doesn't need to be valid for all 2 years (however its interesting it sys you cant "transfer" the car so you cant sell it with that emissions check).
So I bought my car in July 2012, I had an emissions then, I got a 10 month sticker, then may 2013 I get a 2 year sticker with the same emissions I used last year, as it was still valid for that 1 year, it didn't expire till July2013. So with that 1 emissions I did in July 2012 I now have a sticker till may 2015.
May 2012, they didn't ask for the emissions, as they already know the one I had was valid for 1 year!.
They actually told me to do that.
