BMW ditching M5 and M6 manual transmissions?

Damn, this sorta sucks... loved that you could still get a stick M5. Guess those 6-speed M5s just became a lot more rare. what do you guys think?

not surprised, they try to do this years ago on the E60 M5, you could only get SMG on the first year production on the E60 M5, many people wrote to BMW & complained, the following year they offered 6speed again

Yeah might take a bunch of angry customers to make them re-think it.

Front-wheel drive 1er, no-manual M5/M6... what's next? Some kinda dumb crossover?

Oh wait.

Yup. BMW is dead to me.

I agree.. BMW seems to be going downhill with their new designs and marketing ideas, I feel like if buying a new car I'd choose a new Benz now over a new BMW.

That's funny, I thought with the new styling technology BMW was getting better and staying ahead of the pack overall...and yes it sucks that a manual won't be available and they'll tell you that the SMG can shift so much faster, blah blah blah, hopefully customer pressure will make them reconsider ...

I think the new styling's getting too busy. I mean, I've always thought of "sharp and understated" as the BMW design philosophy. But nothing in the current line-up can really be described as understated, and when you add so many curves and character creases it's hard to call the design sharp anymore, either. But I guess that's why I'm an E30 guy.

I guess BMW's 7spd manual will be going in the M3 then.

I also do not like the current direction BMW is headed. Although their product is still of good quality, they seem so concerned with filling every possible niche market that their product line is getting way too stretched out. 1, 3, 5, 7, and a supercar (M1) would be sufficient. The 2, 4, and 6 series, GT versions, and subsequent X vehicles are totally unnecessary. If I were to buy a new german car these days the only BMWs in NA that I'd consider would be the M cars or a 5 series diesel (if they ever do make it over here... they were supposed to two years ago), other than that I'd probably be looking at Audi.

^ I'm still dissappointed at the lack of 2.0L diesels. Those things are the definition of frugal speed. I'd take a 323d touring (since they don't bring 123d 5-door hatches) and enjoy 6 L / 100 with 200 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. The 35d motor is absolute overkill in a 3 if your goal is to save money on fuel (it still saves but not as much as the 2.0L would).

Just the beginning folks.

Parallel parking? no problem with our park-o-matic premium parking laser guided parking system.

Can't drive? not an issue, we will steer for you!

Eventually you'll get in and it massages your feet and tosses your goodies while you sleep your way to the office.

I suppose this will be great as you won't need collision or liability insurance... it wasn't me driving officer I don't even have a licence, Robo-car1000 is automated...

To me cars are for driving, all this talk reminds me of one of my favorite songs:

"Well-weathered leather,
Hot metal and oil,
The scented country air.
Sunlight on chrome,
The blur of the landscape,
Every nerve aware."

-Red Barchetta - Rush.

Modern revisions:

"Un-weathered pleather,
Plastic and oil,
the scentless AC air.
Sunlit wrapped-carbon,
HUD augmented landscapes,
sleeping until we're there."

What do you guys think? lol

+1 on the 123d

Darn, looks like E30 owners won't be buying new $130k M cars. And you were just their demographic.
