E36 Skid Plate
Hey Guys,
I just recently bought a Supercharged 328is off this forum. Its very low and i'm looking for options for a skid plate. Preferable something that will cover the whole front and will sit nice and flush.
Thanks

Skid plates aren't really an issue on E36's because of how far back and up the oil pan is, it's nowhere near the first point of inpact. A lot of people use X-Braces as an extra piece of mind to toughen the area up.

ya Id definitely do the xbrace.
though some e36 variants did actually come with a metal skid plate..hard to find though(dont hvae a part number but you can see the picture on real oem)
e46s did come with one as well

if youre dead set on retrofiring a metal plate...It may bolt on easier than you think. many e46 parts do.

youll have to google and/or try it yourself.
but id just do the xbrace

x-brace with the plastic covering is probably your best bet. There's also a cover that closes up the transmission as well.

Honestly, none of this will help any if you hit something hard! I will post pics tomorrow of what happens to that X-brace upon impact!

that looks more like a regular underpanel than a "skid plate"
motion motorsports has a metal under panel but that wont do squat if you bottom out.

This is what happens when you hit something hard, nothing will help you; it bend the X brace, subframe and broke the steering rack in pieces...
Oh and the driveline was knocked off both engine and transmission mounts!!!

Theres hitting something and then theres hitting something. lol
ive been in a low e46 330 that was bottoming out on uneven pavement and was hitting it decently hard(not accident hard) and the metal plate did its job.

I think Cab's come with the xbrace. We've got one but the oil pan seems to be tucked way up there...
Worth a try to see if you find one somewhere at a wreckers.
