Yeah buy a whole new joint, it comes with the foam pad. Removing that is also a good time to change the selector shaft seal.
And you can't adjust the shifter? You say you're spray liquid wrench into a small hole on the shaft? You aren't supposed to remove that screw!
Loosen the big fitting on the bottom:
Thats the part that I have loosened, to the point that it is completely out. If you look just above the screw that you're not supposed to touch, there is a little hole. Rob told me thats where you spray the lube. Thats where the liquid wrench has been going.
