'94 318i vs '97 318i

A friend of mine has a '97 318i manual and has the chance to purchase a '94 auto as a parts car. Would the majority of the parts be the same (minus the obvious; transmission, driveshaft, ecu, etc.) or is it pointless for him to get it?

Thanks,
Michael

Different engine. 97 is a m44 obd 2, 94 is a more durable m42 obd1. He can make a stroker engine, use the bottom end from the m44 and the top from the m42. mechanically, the diff will work, control arms, shocks, etc etc, but not much more then that

What does he need in parts exactly? doors, windows, electrics are mostly interchangable minus the main wiring bundle

Oh really? I thought when you said "mechanically, the diff will work, control arms, shocks, etc etc" you meant only suspension would work. But if everything unrelated to the engine and transmission will pretty much work then maybe he will get it.
And he doesn't really need anything he was just looking for another and came across a potential parts car!
His current car is stock and very clean but since he found it he thought of buying it just incase.

Thanks again!

yeah sorry to clarify, 99% of the electronics are interchangable, interior, doors, door harnesses, etc , minus engine.

He can always do a harness swap to obd2, shove in m44, and the current tranny will all work with that motor too. Id say go for it

Ya, he said he didn't want to make it a stroker but if he kept the engine then he could always have a backup that would be a fairly straight forward swap.
So he said he's going to go take a look!

Thanks a lot for your help!
