Blower Motor- Problems
Hello guys!
This is my first post, looking forward to being part of the community.
The blower motor in my '97 328is has not been operating. It does not work, then every so often it will turn on for a few minutes. This is rare though.
A new blower motor was put in today, but nothing seems to have changed.
The mechanic suggested that it is likely the resistor (and that it is on the glove box side?). Any suggestions? Might replacing the blower motor resistor help?

Thanks for your time guys! Take care,
Nick

Definitely try that. If that doesn't solve the problem, it's your climate control.

It's the Final Stage Unit (aka resistor), but for climate controls they call it a FSU.
It's an easy job its on the driveside footwell area. Part is around ~$115 locally brand new and it was redesigned with beefier heat sink, you can get one used for around $50 but might as well spend the money and get it new.
check bf.c for a how to on how to change it.
What kind of mechanic changes a blower motor without testing for power first? Hopefully you didn't play for that.

+1 ^^
99% sure it'll be you're Final Stage Unit. I had the same symptoms on my 96 328is and it ended up being that. You should have sent power manually to the blower motor before replacing it, but oh well...Replace the FSU and I bet it'll fix it.

Does this seem like an accurate/useful walk through?
Thanks a lot guys. Going to order the part today. Appreciate the advice.
And one more question... How do I get a, "Display Picture," on this website? Haha, thanks!

Alright, thanks!
So, I went to someone who can order in the part... He can do so for $120.00.
But, I found what seems to be the same part, for $39.00 on Ebay... Is this the FSU which I should be looking for?
If i can save almost a hundred bucks, that would be great. I just want to make sure this is the correct part.

Ebay from the US, remember you'll be paying shipping + duties and taxes. Plus it might take 1-2week to get here. If you have time go for it.
If you want it faster, check out bimmerspecials.ca
Price went down from when i bought it. $86.09 + shipping. They ship fast. (got mine in a few days)

I agree, check what they use for shipping, etc, if its not usps don't touch it because you will be raped in duties and brokerage which is all made up...
I say go for bimmerspecialist, some aftermarket resistors blow super easy because they are very cheap

Don't cheap out, get a new OE part and ditch that moron of a mechanic you went to and cancel the payment while youre at it.
If he KNEW bmw's he would know your issue has a cheaper and more likely issue FIRST!

http://www.autopartsway.ca/PartList..../pagenum1/tabS
$48 CAD
if you buy something else to get the price over 75 - shipping is free.
It takes about 30 minutes to replace if you've done it before either way, the job is a back breaker...quite literally..

Check the resistor harness too to see if any leads are melted from possible current overload. If that's melted you should change that as well.

Thanks for the advice, however, he actually is a great mechanic who knows his stuff. He did not charge me, and besides, I did need a new blower motor either way.
And thanks for the advice guys, I am taking 'er all into consideration.
