My E36 S54 Swap Thread

Ok so it looks like from my quick search that the tranny will work just fine.

Yea I'm using that setup right now. My original 5 speed with an s52 lightweight flywheel bolted to the s54.

Yeah its the most intelligent setup being that it makes for less work.
Steven does it matter if I buy an S54 out of an SMG or a 6 speed M3? Im guessing the motor out of the six speed, Im sure thats a newbie question.

My motor was actually smg. They are both the same. The only difference is that the smg motors have a different plenum with the smg fluid reservoir built in. I tell people it's my intake fluid lol.

also the wiring is different you will have to strip out the smg wiring from the main harness.

I think once I get the motor (from a six speed) Im gonna do the rod bearings, valve adjust, polish up the motor and what not. mounts z3m engine mounting brackets and MSS54 ECU most of the parts should be pretty much there.

I'm a year late on this one, but that wheel was not done by Tainik. I don't want someone to rely on those photos to decide to purchase a wheel from another wheel recoverer.

Also, may I ask who did the exhaust? It's beautiful work.

how does that wheel diameter compare to the typical 3 spoke that comes in the car already?

The exhaust was done by my friend Sham. He mainly does turbo builds so this was a piece of cake for him.

is this the flywheel you used? it says on the listing it is only used with m3 clutch, but i have a 328is so will that work? I'm also using the 5speed tranny.

Also, which motor mounts did you use? looking to upgrade my tranny/motor mounts. do you think the z3m motor arm is needed? how much was it?

Finally got the style 5's on late last week.



12.5mm spacers in the front and it sits perfect. The rear could use a 10mm (or some 17x9's!!!) so I'll eventually pick some up.
