e34 540i vs e36 328is

I tried google but this comparison hasn't been discussed. I am wondering which is better on the following criteria and since both are pretty old now lets assume after both cars are DDs for 200kms.

1.0-100 (km)
2.Handling
3.Fuel Consumption
4.Maintenance costs ( assume m60b40 is the non Nikaniki one)

Finally what car do you prefer due to experience? Any other criteria worth mentioning?

Personally...really like the 3 series...well balanced, good fuel economy and love the look of the coupe.

Depends on ur priorities.

e36 will be cheaper to maintain than e34
in any case both can't be really compared since once is v8 sedan and other is a sporty coupe

I was just wondering since there are many comparisons of the 325i and the 535i but no 540

few more points:
m52 in 328is is a much more modern engine than the m60 in e34 - reliability
e36s parts are cheap and only getting cheaper
e34 parts are more expensive and sometimes are hard to find

E36 is lighter and more nimble but im sure if you get some nice suspension set up for the E34 it will do just the same .
