I just looked at that, they seem kind of off. You can search, theres been SO many mileage threads. To sum up:
E36 325: 8-11 L/100 (You can get 7 on the higway and 8-9 combined if you know how to drive it; I usually average 9.5-10 with a lot of city driving and substantial hard driving)
E36 318: Not too sure, but from what I remember it's not substantially better! You may average 9 instead of 10...

Not enough of a difference to justify getting a smaller motor

In the city it makes a big difference, on highway not that much.

i've owned both now, and i could get over 800km to a tank in the 318, and am getting roughly 600km's with the 325. But as flav said; driving style makes huge differences; i calmed down substantially since I noticed I have a lifter tick; and this last tank got 600km's on 44 litres; or 7.3 l/100km's. But I'm really babying the car now....

I don't know how you guys resist the urge to plant the **** out of your cars. I'm getting under 550km / 65L tank with mixed hwy/city driving, but I love every minute of it! :

I would normally agree; but it's no fun picking pistons up off the ground; and that seems to be the direction my motor's heading... But once that's all fixed, then I'll be back to jammin' gears!

that's still pretty high... you must not drive very hard
I managed to get 17l/100km in the e46 325 and I average around 11-12l/100km in the e90 325/328 with combined city and hwy... about 400km per tank is my average.
