Driveshaft Destruction, Help?
So I was driving my car two days ago, opened her up WOT and began being able to hear the car accelerating like in the vehicle, and people told me sparks came from behind when I was speeding at WOT.
Took it by the mechanic and turns out that as my driveshaft spins at WOT, its ripping through the underbody of the car. He told me that an easy fix would be to come from above, rip out the rear seats, locate wher eit is happening and put in a new piece of metal, has anyone experienced this?
My father is a professional welder, but I would like to have a little step by step to ensure that everything is being done right. Thanks alot for the help, trying to be ready for the midnight cruise

Unless its your subframe that has come loose i dont see why you need to cut the metal.
Are you sure your suspension(mounts springs etc) are ok?
Sounds a lil strange to me that the driveshaft would do this.
How low is your car anyway?

So you have a fried center bearing and your mechanic wants to disassemble the interior and cut sheet metal to see what's going on? Tell me where this will happen so I can bring popcorn and a lawnchair. If you guys ask nicely I'll bring a camera.

I think the question/inquiry is misunderstood, I belive he wants to find out if there is a cost effective repair that could be performed for the subframe floor mounts, seeing that his father is a welder.
Will require rear subframe floor reinforcement. Subframe where mounted on floor pushes up through the floor therefore the driveshaft touches the arch at the rear due to the front pinion tilting up.
Hypno nls1, I think you need to clairify your post......

damn your mechanic wants to cut from inside your car to get at the driveshalf?
Don't ever let him touch your car again.
Don't make guesses, get someone to have a look at the driveshalf, im sure once you have the shield out the problem will be obvious.

Unless my memory fails me, I believe this is the same fellow who was recently asking someone to fax him a wiring diagram because his mechanic couldn't figure it out. They better be related or the guy works for Big Macs, cause otherwise this is some kind of masochism.

Hypno_nls1, you should chime in and clairify your post. When the E36 subframe breaks through the floor this is the result.

lol i've clearly said something wrong here, p.s. my mechanic knows more than all of you so stfu. As MANDD has been stating my subframe has broken through the floor, all im really trying to do is find a temporary fix that will enable me to drive aroudn for a few months without the driveshaft rubbing the underneath, until i can save up to properly redo the underbody.

Well there is no temporary fix and since your mechanic know better than all of us go ask him ....
