New to the BMW world. Drivetrain swap question

Hello everyone.

Had my STI stolen a while back and decided to venture into another project. Just bought a 2000 BMW 323ci.

Over the next few months I plan on getting it ready for the summer. I have the suspension and brakes figured out. Just wondering about a divetrain swap. I would like to keep it BMW. Possibly M3 Drivetrain? Is that a pretty much straight forward task? Any advice on a 335i swap?

I enjoy my turbocharged cars coming from a 500awhp and 500awtq STI.

Nice to start over on something new to me. Appreciate all the help.

Thanks
Vince

Sell it an buy an M3. It is probably going to cost you just as much.

Definitely not a "straightforward" swap beyond the mechanical aspect. Everyone else here is right: sell it, buy a M3. The cost of the drivetrain + labor/programming/wiring to have it function properly will come within spitting distance of an actual E46 M3. May as well save yourself the hassle and do it the right way.

And forget about a N54 swap... That will be MUCH more expensive, again to the point where you could buy an early 335i for less.

Probably the only engine worth swapping in is a chevy LS engine. Still tons of work though.

I made some time to look into the 335i swap and there's to much custom work needed. So I'll scratch that idea.

I'm capable of doing all my own work. So labour is all/mostly me. Whether it's a M3 or LS. I have good sources for great prices on both routes.

So E46 M3 engine, transmission, rear end and engine harness. Other than that what's involved to completing?

Right now it's the 2.5L. I don't know what that's capable of? How are these motors witha turbo kit?

Sorry about the noob questions. I'm very new to the BMW world lol

Not many turbo'd 325's.

Here's a 330 Turbo kit http://www.techniquetuning.com/bmw-e...st2-turbo.html

Most E46's seems to be supercharged, but you won't even be at M3 levels of power

Thank you. It looks like a LS1 swap is what I'm leaning towards. Unless I come across a M3 swap for a good price.

The issue usually isn't the price of parts, it's the electrical work/programming needed to get an S54 to start in another chassis.

Since you don't know that already, I'm willing to bet you money you can't make an s54 run on its stock ecu in another e46. I'll give you until spring. Prove me wrong.

Ls1 is a good swap with a 6 speed.. But ..don't ask anyone here about that. its all about stretch n poke stance all up in here. If you know what I mean.!!

Yes I do.. I'm more of a powertrain guy. I just love the M3 look. Just trying to get the best of style and performance.

I've done plenty of swaps. Just never on a BMW. That's why I tried a forum for some help.

As others have said, that e46 of your isn't the greatest starting point if you're looking to put down that kind of power. If it were a 330, bit more of an advantage but still hard to justify. I agree with the crowd, sell and buy an m3, m5, 540, or e30/e36 to swap anything you want into

(that last option would probably be the most fun if you're looking for some work to do)

Binbrook - LUCKY - you can take your swapped 3 over to Cayuga for testing!!!

I wanted to buy a house in Binbrook...3 car garage (tandem on one side), upstairs laundry AND a real mud room. Main floor office, walk in pantry, sell my current house and have leftover money! - it was perfect

Wife was starting to go for it too till I said "and it's only a few minutes from TMP" .... idea killed immediately.

OP I live in Hannon (Rymal and fletcher) PM me if you want to talk LS swap. I did a E36 LS6 so very familiar with what you will run into if you go that route.
