So its been awhile since I last updated about how the car ran... and I mentioned a gear noise. Well... it turned out to be a pretty embarrassing noobie mistake on my part that involved the differential
Anyways, fast forward to this past Monday night, thrashing to get my new (well, swapped LSD unit over to an open e21 diff) diff installed... Had to help with Kurt's Dakar M3 first to help him bleed his brakes, and then after that he gave me a hand chucking the diff into my car. Finished working on the car again at around 3am. Damn, I really need to stop doing that!!
Tuesday morning, everyone was up and at the shop early, but somehow I guess with the melee of taking 4 cars to the track, we got there a couple minutes late. Unfortunately, throughout the day, I had a lot of running around to do with helping out, thus only resulting in me getting in about 10 laps throughout the day, but I am fine with that as it was more than enough for me to get an idea of what the car is doing at speed (compared to the DDT, where I barely got halfway through 3rd before slowing down). Add to the fact that I don't feel completely safe about running an old car, without a cage, and a stock seatbelt with a race seat. Generally speaking, thats a no-no. Regardless, I still managed 1.48s, literally cruising up the backstraight... not bad for pretty much no time in the car and not feeling confident at all about it (especially the brakes).
Thanks to Dave and Richard for treking out to 5 to take pics.
The car ended up cutting out on the backstraight 5 mins from the end of the day... and its a problem I haven't had a chance to figure out yet, but I plan to before the weekend so I can at least move the car around. Most likely it is something simple, and electrical related. No biggie. But things the car REALLY needs before the next track day:
New front tires (finally corded those junky NT01s from the E30)
Hubcentric spacers
Trunk floor
New fuel cell (existing one is waaaaaayyy too small. Guess who ran out of gas again!)
Take a look at the brake line fittings that are sweating
Create a proper throttle pedal stop
Create a dead pedal
Install my sending units for the gauges
And a cage and proper harnesses would be nice
Want to see how slow this thing is on the backstraight??
