Different recall then our e46's.
E46 2002 and 2003 affected by this recall, I received my notice a year ago
I called BMW head office and was advised to call any dealer, I did with
Maranello but still no parts....

Imagine, issuing a recall but no parts to do the service....

Sorry for kinda hijack this thread.

I thought it was just me regarding this E46 recall. I first received the notice like a year and a half ago then they sent another after saying parts had run out and in back order. Then a third notice was sent saying the parts were available, so I guess they are still out of parts?

It is a dumb situation, but the likelihood of any of us being hurt by an air bag is extremely low. It's never happened on a BMW and we're not in a humid location.

They're basically playing it safe. We're probably more likely die in a crash resulting from a subframe failure.

most likely still out of parts, my buddy here at work also has a E46 with the airbag recall, it has been over 2yrs now, still no parts, he use to work for BMW but at the time the manager said customers first so he held back, 2yrs later still in the same boat.

It sounds like it's not a problem in Canada.
Rather see they make automatic jail time for the idiots that just don't get it. Texting drivers will kill and maime more innocent people than all the faulty airbags ever will. The sad thing is people still do it and it is completely controlable.

I too got that e46 recall and fix, it could be those who waited or were notified later missed out and have to wait. My understanding is the current airbag recall is different then the one affecting the e46 (component). The list issued by that thread and gov/Canada site does not mention the e46 and in fact mentions it is a new and different recall.

True being killed in Canada or seriously injured has not happened but that is what they are banking on, literally. Still a serious issue in the US though and now independent dealers are refusing to accept cars on that list no matter the manufacturer. A customer of ours just this last week was refused trade in on their 2011 AUDI because that dealer made a decision to not resale cars on the list or renew leases.

I gave up calling Marenello, the last one was late Jan 2016,
so I don't know if parts are available, BMW is waiting for me to sue them, lol

If it is so dangerous why don't they remove the inflator? Oh that would make too much sense. Seatbelts save lives, airbags are for the dummies that think they don't need to wear them.

Yea, morons texting and lack of driver training are much worse problems. Texting while driving should be similar fines to DUI. Studies have shown it's just as dangerous.

They don't remove the airbag because statistically it's much more likely to prevent injury than cause it.

Anyhow, E46's have 2 airbag recalls. One for the passenger airbag, which they do have replacements for, and one for the driver's airbag, which they don't have replacements for because Takata is ****ed. Gonna be at least a year or two for those, and the priority will be given to humid areas.
I decided to hold off on the passenger airbag because I never have any passengers. I'll get them both done together whenever that happens.

Canada has expanded the recall to include E90 and other models. Many manufacturers are affected. It's not a BMW specific issue. If dealers and private sale buyers all stopped dealing with affected vehicles I suppose that the car industry would grind to a halt.

FYI, I received a letter from BMW stating that they now have parts for both the driver and passenger airbags, so I'll be booking an appointment to have them done.
If you didn't get a letter, then be sure to log into mybmw.ca to register with BMW.
