Exclamation BMW 335i steering wheel lock.. won't start.. please help

Hello.. My name is Ashley and I am new to this forum. I am the owner of a 2007 BMW 335i. I am having some serious issues with my vehicle and could really use some answers/suggestions. My car will not start at all and theres a steering wheel lock light indicator as well as an air bag and ABS.. those are the only things that appear when trying to get the car to start. I am looking for tips on what I can do on my own first without having to spend thousands at the dealership.

Sounds like you may have a dead battery.

If the car doesn't start, its normal for the dashboard to be lit up like a Christmas tree with the key turned to position 2 (run)

the wheel lock, could be anything from....

1.Voltage
2.Electronic steering lock column (changed a few of these not particularly cheap when done at the dealer)
3.Software update needed to the point they had a service bulletin on it.

Best thing to do to avoid the no start until diagnosis is performed and if the car still has proper voltage...avoid turning your wheel full lock left or right and putting the car in park that way.

Visit a good bmw mechanic and have the code(s) read and go from there...

If you're in Oklahoma, visit the e46fanatics.com forum and hopefully someone can recommend you a good local shop to go to.
Good luck

@Shashley, I forgot to add, if the mechanic or dealer diagnosis it as the steering column lock be sure once the old one is removed the new one is plugged in (while hanging out) and the key is inserted to make sure it resolves the issue. If it does great if not they will come back and say sorry it is actually the module that controls it and hand you a bill for $1200 or so even though that simple test could have prevented the building back up of the column and the cost of a new steering lock mechanism.

Good start be sure the battery change is registered in other words the car is told a new battery has been installed.

A new battery and coding fixed the issue on my E90. It is a common problem when the battery gets old and weak.

It must be fixed by now. What did you do?
