New cars are not designed to be kept a long time. 5 years in general. Anything above 100K is a ticking time bomb, IF it makes it that far. This is the sad reality...

Not sure about reliability yet. They have been out for a very short time so far.

I went ahead with the 30i with M sport line with full leather, as they wanted to much money for the M40i and driving them back to back, M40i didn't feel that much faster and worth the premium in my particular situation, as this is my wifes car, and doubt she would appreciate the extra power.

In general very happy so far, it drives awesome and new tech is cool and works well. Do not have any negatives to say about this car so far (except the fact that you cannot turn off auto start/stop feature permanently, it has to be done manually every time you start the car ).

Even a short time is enough for new cars, the stories from people working at the dealerships are mind blowing! Brand new M5's blowing diffs before European Delivery, Alpina's blowing engines before they get sold, 550's coming in for driveline failure under 10K...Some dealers do more engine swaps than oil changes...The stories go on and on...And ALL brands, not just BMW.
