South 400 ramp to east 401

Hey guys,

I travel south 400 across to 401/VicPark every day. I usually just go 400/401 which is decent except for the south 400 ramp to east 401. Is there a relatively painless way to avoid this. (Without taking 407).

I've thought about Black Creek to Jane and up Jane to Wilson east and rejoin 401 somewhere or some like that. Or is it just a matter of getting thru there earlier? If you live in the area what does it look like at 6:30am, 7am, 7:30am.

Or is the collective wisdom that Toronto was never really planned out properly to commute and I'm just screwed.

It shouldn't be bad from 6:30 to 7 am.

401 is a disaster at pretty much any time of day... I avoid it like the plague myself and take any other highway including the 407 whenever possible.

But you can probably avoid most of the issues if you leave early enough.

You can check and activate traffic to get a good idea as well

Where do you get on the 400? If you are close to Allen Rd, it might be faster taking Allen South to the 401.

Afraid other than the 407 there isn't much to do to avoid it.

>>> I've thought about Black Creek to Jane and up Jane to Wilson east and rejoin 401 somewhere or some like that.

That is what I use to do when I lived in the area "BUT just rejoin Blackcreek right away then exit to 401 east". Way much faster even if you get stuck for a bit at Jane turn! You only do this if there is heavy traffic going to 401 otherwise, if it's light just flow through it.

Man 6:30/7:00/7:30 (At 400/401 area) is good, for almost 5 years driving to Yorkdale for TTC I avoid 7:30-9:30 timeslot! I usually go to work around pass that area around 9:50 or so less traffic. I arrive downtown around 10:30ish heh

I've been in this situation a couple times. I find the best option is to stay in the 401 west lane until the split, look for someone who isn't paying attention and snake onto the east bound ramp. There are so many scared/intimidated drivers that this is relatively easy to do. I usually stick with the 407 at peak hours though to avoid being a prick.

Isnt 400 south ramp to 401 west even worse?

They've got construction going on there and usually is a one lane as soon as you get on the 401 for a kilometer or so...
