E36 S50 TRM chip - high RPM cutout

Hey all,

I'm having an issue with my E36 currently. I have a 94' 325i with an OBD-1 s50 swap. Currently the car has the 3.5" euro MAF and #21.5 injectors with a TRM 7k rpm chip designed for the aforementioned mods.

The problem is that on occasion, when I rev to 6300rpm or so, the check engine light flashes and the car bogs similar to how it would if it had a governor of some sort. However, sometimes I'm able to rev to 7k without issue.

Now, through some research, I was instructed to change the speed sensor in the diff, which I did, however, this did not solve the problem.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

some or all injectors may be slightly clogged or restricted also one or a few coils may not be pulsing correctly. After that is checked/repaired, make sure the spark plugs are gapped correctly or replaced.

If they all check out to be in 100% working order, then look at the ecu/chip. I would give the ecu a hard tap while the engine is running. could be a cap on the mbrboard failing.

The injectors were flow tested prior to install but I will check the coils and plugs. I feel like this is something to do with the DME/chip though because the car always pulls strong its just sometimes at 6300rpm or so, it bogs hard and the CEL flashes for a second.

Thanks for the help!

if it was the chip that 'stumble' would be consistant. maybe try taking out the chip then cleaning the socket with compressed air, then re-insert and make sure all connections are tight. if it still continues, then i would get another s50 chip (or get one burned on a chip).
