thinking about e36s.

I've been considering E36s for a daily driving vehicle, I just need some advice what should I be looking for, I'm looking at mostly 328s, 4dr, most likely automatic, spare me how manual is so much better, but I need an automatic since I need to let my mom be able to drive this car.

thx.

Save yourself a couple grand and get a 325is. Just stay away from 1992's. They have a problem with the diff mounts tearing away under hard cornering.....it can be prevented with a reinforcement kit but just get a '93+ to be safe.

Here is a pic of that same problem on a Z3!

I thought about E36s, and really wanted one, so I bought one, and then decided that I could get a larger displacement E34 that suited the same needs, only better (power, speed, style, and seating for 4)...

I still prefer the look of a 36 over a 34 for a sporty car (aka, if I wanted a track car, E36 would be what I'd snag), but for a four door, it's just a better option IMO. ONLY if you go with a large displacement engine though, as it's a heavy car.

found some E39s for similar price, how are E36 compare to E39?

reliability wise of course, since its the most important thing.

What kind of E39?

And remember, big engine E39s are a huge step up in price, and remember, the engines aren't going to push the car hard if it's a 528...

5 series are known for better build quality, have the same drive train as the 3 series (unless it's 535 or 540) and don't hold resale for some reason.
God for people like you who want reliable daily drivers til the end.

As I said though, the smaller engines will make you feel like you're driving a Chevy Sprint (not even turbo). All show, no go.

Otherwise, Jeffrie is right.

what abotu all those radiator blown up, cam sensor busted things?

sure nothing major, but that sounds bloody annoying, and don't mind some 15-16s 1/4mile cars.

rads are cheap and cam sensors go on both 3's and 5's.

You're looking at about 18/25MPG... that's being conservative on the gas...

Pedal to the floor, you're looking at 7.5 for 0-60, and 16 for a quarter...

You're looking at $20,000 plus for a 528i... Almost buy an M3 for that much (E36).
