Wow it's cold. Car acting funny?

I work at 10:00am and get off at 4:00pm. So my car was sitting outside in this really cold weather for 6 hours. So at 4:00 I got into my car, and when I turned the key it took like a second before it started. I also noticed that it was kind of sluggish.

The clutch, tranny and gas peddle all seemed alot stiffer and harder to push down.

Is this normal for a car to do this after sitting outside for 6 hours in this cold weather.

Once it warmed up, it seemed to get better.

This has never happened before...

what oil are you runnign right now? I think mine is 10w60 and it's freakin running sluggish. I'm going to do a oil change and see how it goes maybe go 5w30 or something.

just don't rev it too much with that 5w30 in there..

this is why i park my bimmer.. all the fluids are like goo and nothing works smoothly till it warms up.

I'm running some kind of imported oil.

I think it's more performence orientated... which might be bad?

maybe the 10w30 is too vicous for the cold temps and plus we had SHIT weather, thats why u notice it now. because it gets colder, and when its already so thick..it is almost freezing..but it warms up and becomes better, 5W30 is a lot thinner and easier on the motor i guess at first

maybe i got this the other way around, but i guess switch the words around and u get wat i mean

My Jeep is parked for winter (not street legal at all), and when I got in it for a drive around the block today, I had to work the shifter back and forth for five minutes to get it into reverse It sucked.

Yes it is normal. You shouldn't worry about anything! It is a damn cold day today. With the gusty wind blowing it will make your engine fluids colder when it is off.

If it still feels sluggish 10 min after it has been on then you should be worried. I'm sure it will be fine after 10 though. My 8 cyl Mercedes took 10 min to feel alright after I started it up this afternoon. It was sitting in the cold for 9 hours.

happened twice with my accord but worse, 1st time it wouldn't start, 2nd time it started but the engine started to rumble and then shut itself off. my mechanic said it was probably the gas I use but I ise sunoco gas, and 1 more octane than what my manual recommends... but sometimes on cold days it does the same thing as yours

Yeah, same symptoms here.. usual winter stuff... although i'm going to change the oil to AMSOIL's 0W40 soon.

I had that oil during the winter with other cars.. never any probs with the slow startup..

Stuff is friggen expensive - but the best motor oil IMHO..
