Removing Door Handle

I've been trying to remove a door handle from a door skin I bought but I'm having a ton of trouble with it. The door off an unknown year E36 but I do know that it does NOT have a bolt accessible from the outside for the rear window channel. I'm having a real hard time doing two things:
1) Getting the handle into the door because the window's metal rails are sort of blocking the path.
2) Getting the lock and the door handle to come apart. The hooked metal arm that connects the two looks to be highly inaccessible. I've no idea how they even assembled it. I am referring to step 9 in:

I've also looked at

but it didn't help.

Any words of advice? I really need this stupid handle out of here.
