Battery Issue 2006 3 series

The battery light came on in my car, in addition the car chugs a lot before it starts in the morning. I think i may need a new battery.
I?ve been reading that a new battery needs to be programmed with the battery tool kit, does the new battery need to be programmed into the model i have? It?s a 2006 3 series

Hi Kate,

Battery registration is to help the IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) to more efficiently charge and care for the new battery. The car will still run and drive without it, though.

You can take it to an independent shop which will probably register the battery for around $50.

Alternatively, you can use a tool like Carly to perform the registration yourself although you have to buy the adapter and the the pro version of the app itself.

Hope that helps!
