Bogging/Loss of power at 100 to 120 km/h

Recently I've had to take my car to Bimmersport to have the alternator replaced because it failed on me. So now, two 2 days after getting it back, this problem started.

When just cruising on the hwy at 100-120 in 5th or 4th(happens in both), All of the sudden the RPM drops as if I just got off the gas. When I push the gas pedal in it makes no difference as if it was getting no gas! Now in each situation where this has happened I've had to press the clutch in and dump it back and everything is good for a few more km's before it happens again.

This doesn't happen all the time but on the 2nd day of this, the CEL came on and has since stayed.

Ideas?

My car in a 1992 with an obd1 2.8L motor. Can it still get scanned? The pedal trick doesn't work.

Too bad there is no distributor (or cap) or wires to check! The ignition is electonic with individual coil packs on each plug.

But you have a good point on the ground...
Not long ago a customer of mine had somewhat the same problem (no power, hard start, runs good on and off...) suspected fuel pump, but it turns out the ground cable (on right side of engine) was not tight (when his mechanic welded new sway bar mounts)...Connected ground and problem was fixed!

sorry to kinda hijack thread...

Fil, do you have any idea where the proper mounting location for those ground straps are? I can't find anything on them at all & maybe that's what's causing some of my grief too!

I'll have to get the ground thing looked into as it does seem possible... I mean this only happened after my alternator was changed...

i believe there is a ground screw as 1 of the connectors of the alternator.. make sure all the connection s(believe 3 in total but could be 2) are tight at the back of the alternator..
