depends what area of the cluster your replacing. from what i recall, theirs 3 types. beige, black & green. you only need a couple greens, but black and beige you should get at least 12/ea. just replace all the bulbs since your back there, the bulbs are cheap.
depending on the parts guy, he can probably drill down exactly how many bulbs you'll need of each type. good luck.

Hey man thanks for that link and all the help all you guys attempting this i would say remove the steering wheel ! lol fun lol i never Cursed soooo much at a instrument cluster in my life like i did today lol , plus bmw sold me the wrong light but ill save the others and lol last one ok i remove the cluster and all replace the bulb and reconnect and put everything back in order only to turn it on and to find another burned light! lol so i removed it again and changed that bulb lol i think im going pro now lol

lol no well just today and kinda sometimes in my old e30 lol i had to like tap the glass thing cuse my Gas tank reader would jump all over the place till i tapped it lol

bimmerdude, sorry to hear u had bad luck... did u do the work indoors?
btw, i mentioned on this thread, if you going to change the bulbs, replace them ALL... they are cheap, so you might as well change them at the same time.
well i least you got some practice! good job...

i changed them in my old e30 i removed the steerin wheel however and the job took about 5-10mins..
but BG steps are pretty much the same!
