issue with e30

hey,

im new to this forum i have a 1987 bmw 325e and had a question, not sure if im allowed to post here but when i drive the car i get this weird rattling noise from under the car its usually off low rpms i was told by a mechanic that it could be the shift bushings but i was also told by a bmw mechanic that it could be something with the drive train im not sure where to start looking im not too good with diagnosing the car myself but was interested in going to bimmersport and seeing what the problem is but i wanted to know if anyone has had this porblem happen with a 1987 325e.

Welcome! Your description sounds a little vague, there's (literally) hundreds of things under the car that can cause a "rattle". Most of the time it's an exhaust component (internal resonator baffle, bad weld, catalytic broken apart) or heat shield.

hey,

ive been told my my mechanic that its poosible that its a u joint?

it seems to be like something is worn out but its hard to describe i checked youtube and it seems to sound similar to the sound of a bad u joint but was wondering if anyone had something similar happen?, im not to technical when it comes to this stuff but i know its not bearings, ball joints, or anything wheel related and i know the heat shield is fine but it seems to be coming from the shifter reigon and its definitly not the exhaust. i apoligize if this doesnt help but its also confusing me as well loll

your best bet is to take it to a mechanic and get it on a hoist.
Lots of places will look at it for free, and will often let you take a look for yourself so you can learn a little.

And post technical issues in the e30 technical section, you will likely get a lot more responses and advice.

first thing that comes to mind when driving an old car with an exhaust area rattle is heat shield.

heyy guys its been a while turns out it was my hanger bearing and u-joint bushings got it fixed and now the car runs mint thanks for the help
