Air Conditioner Problem

On my '02 330ci, when I press the snowflake, I don't seem to hear the compressor turning on at all. The air coming through the vents doesn't seem heated, just feels like ambient air - same as if only the fan was on. My main question is, am I looking at replacing the whole compressor or is it something more minor than that? Another thing I was wondering is if it's low on refrigerant, will that prevent the compressor from turning on?

Could be any number of things that would cause the compressor not to engage, it would be wrong to assume it's the compressor.
It could be a relay,switch, sensor, and yes low pressure in the system can cause it now to engage the compressor, or too much pressure in the system causing it to not turn on also.

Basically some diagnostics is needed, take it in for an AC checkup.
Most of the time it could just be a leak in the system causing it to be low or empty.

Any recommended places I can take it to for AC checkup? I know RMP doesn't do much in the way of AC's, they can recharge the system however.

Yea... recharge it with the wrong stuff. He's not a licensed a/c tech so if you're gonna go that route you might as well do it yourself.
