1997 328 I Auto trans, what will fit?

Having difficulty finding solid answers online, and my timings been terrible trying to find a complete parts car to 5 speed swap(great deal last week when I was out of cash), so if it comes down to it, what auto transmissions will be a direct swap into my 1997 328i auto? Thanks in advance guys.

The transmission that is probably in it is a GM 4L30 auto. I had to rebuild the one in my old 328i. Hope this helps..

The 4L30-E was an automatic transmission developed and produced by General Motors. It was developed for light-duty use in longitudinal engine rear-wheel drive vehicles, replacing the similar TH180/3L30. The 4L30-E was used in many European and Japanese vehicles, including the BMW 3- and 5 Series, Isuzu Rodeo and its derivatives, and Opel Omega/Cadillac Catera. It was replaced by the 5-speed 5L40-E/5L50. The 4L30-E was built at GM's transmission plant in Strasbourg, France.

^^^ Altho the same model, i highly doubt that they are the same!
I know what from 96 to 98 they used 3 different versions of the GM trans, and even if they fit, they have different electrical connectors so they wont plug in! You have to get the right one to make sure it works...

Thanks guys! Damn after the first list I got excited... then Eurostyle came to rain on my parade lol.

So I guess I NEED a 328 e36 trans, and even then it needs to be with my specific plug ins...?

Yes, check the lable on the driver side of the trans, it should have 2 big letters stamped on it, like SY, etc...make sure it matches!
