im interested in that other cluster, what else do u need to make use of the oil temp gauge? the mileage would be documented when i put it in, but can you "roll back" the km on the cluster? it would be nice to find cluster without a quarter million km on on the odometer
ps. the polished vanos housing looks wicked! it look even better beside a csl air box hehe

You can't easily roll the km's back but I think he said it has relatively low mileage (somewhere around 150k). If your DME has the higher mileage then the cluster can be aligned to to DME and show the higher value without showing the tamper dot. I'm sure there is someone out there that can roll back the cluster but its probably more hassle than its worth. To make it work you need to run a wire to the cluster from the oil temp sensor (this can be an aftermarket sender or come stock on engines like the s50 euros or s54).
The CSL airbox is definitely a mod I have on the list but it probably won't happen for a couple years. Right now to get an oem setup is about 6 grand! However, there are aftermarket boxes like evolve and bimmerworld that are a bit cheaper.

I received the cluster in the mail today... I was pretty happy but then I opened the package. Looks like the morons at the post service decided to play baseball and use my package as the ball. I was tracking it and it showed that they had pulled the package aside and opened it to identify the contents. Anyways here's what a $400 cluster looks like...
I'm thinking I could swap the housing with my existing one.

No idea. I contacted the seller and we'll see if anything can be done. I know it was in perfect condition prior to being shipped because he sent me a few pictures of it. The good news is I was able to transfer the guts of the euro cluster into my existing housing. You cant even tell that it was switched and the glass on my cluster was in better condition so it looks better anyways.
pic of it in the new housing and all lit up. I'm glad that there are no black spots in the backlight though!

You could wait until the euro collapses and get one for dirt cheap lol. I need to get the damn airbag light diagnosed/reset. Anyone have a reset tool??

i was gonna say swap the glass, but you already did it! Thats the good thing about e36 clusters, easy to swap the glass. Here is another hint for ya Steve. Get some Meguires Step 2 Car polish and a microfibre cloth. Put some polish on the cloth and rub the acrylic face of the cluster ( the glass) down in circular motions , so that you get some heat into it ( hot cloth, burned fingers LOL). It DOES polish out , and your cluster will look BRAND new.
I've done it on mine and I am happy to say that the wierd burn marks on it and scratches are 100% gone!!!!

^ yep standalone is generally a pain in the ass because of the vanos. The guy who's selling that harness actually has vanos functioning off of the DTA standalone. I think it comes up to the same price if you go DTA standalone or stock DME since the stock DME requires a pretty expensive tune!
On a side note... I can't stop staring at this wheel. I wanna order one so bad from Tainik!

Thanks! This guy in Germany sells the wheels on ebay. The sellers name is Tainik. I'm going to buy the alcantara one once I get the swap 100% complete. As far as I know my car came factory with the alcantara interior. I still need to do a VIN check to see all the factory options it was ordered with.
Here's his ebay page with all the different styles. Prices are not bad either especially if you already have the airbag.
