check engine : brake circuit failure??
i got a check engine light...after i washed my car...
it says brake circuit failure??
but my brake lights perfectly fine at any position the light switch is at..
its a 1996 328is
weird. any1 know what the problem is?
not too worried because everything works okay. just the warning sign flashing at me everytime i start my car.....

just run and drive the car and see after turning it on and of if it resets itself. Should be fine..ghost in the machine sort of thing.

yup . they both light up.
DRL , middle notch , and full low beams notch.
brake lights all light up and also comes on when i press on the brakes.
i'll take ceekers advice...and just wait it out

your brake light switch is on it's way out it's not the check engine light tho brake light circuit come on the OBC check engine is a totally different ball game

no not at all it's under the drivers kick panal part is not expensive . where do u live?? maybe i can give u a hand if am in the area next week

Located behind the arm of the brake pedal. As you press down on the pedal it presses a plunger in; This plunger is part of the brake switch.

The brake switch isn't hard to replace but a major pain the ass to do.

I just ordered 2 switches from E-bay as mine went for the second time. Common issue on these E36's... Dealer wants $56 for the switch...

ya ....i thought i was lucky because the warning went off for a week or two...
but it came back again today....i guesss i'll have to change thisss...lol but i have no idea where it is or how to change this..LOL ..
