The guy who was stopped/filming was a bit sketch... not answering any questions properly, etc...
I applaud the cop though, handled the situation very well.

not in the slightest bit. It was his duty not to give any information to the cop.
He doesn't have to and he shouldn't.
It would have been very hard for me NOT to give info to the cop because of how cool he was, and forgetting about any information you give could be implicating yourself somehow. Cops don't need to know your name unless you're under arrest for a crime.
Same thing applies here, if you're walking down the street, you have the right to say no to a cop that wants your ID or asks where you live, where you're coming from, going to...etc.
That cop was acting as a peace officer, not a law enforcement officer. He understood the rights of the citizen and respected them. We need thousands more like him.

Doesn't matter... if you have nothing to hide, why not just give your info to the man? He will check and you will be on your way sooner.
You have to remember, cops need to deal with all kinds of whack people every day. IMO the guy was acting really sketch. It wasn't even the fact that he didn't want to give his info, but the fact that he wasn't actively responding to the officer. The officer had to ask him twice for a few things (gun, name, etc).

So what? What does that have to do with it?
It's your right to do a lot of things... but if an officer walks up to me, I'm nice to the guy. I have nothing to hide and I have nothing to be afraid of. He wants my name I'll give it to him.
He will run it, and I will be on my way a little while later on.
That's not brain washed, that's just plain old common sense.

Meh...I hope the cop whooped his ass when he shut the camera off.
Walking around with an unloaded gun, recording and not showing id.....do ya think he was looking for trouble??
It may all be legal, but it is still stupid! But I guess it isn't against the law to be stupid either.

+1 just being a douche, pushing his rights for no other reason than that he can. Was probably hoping the cop would lose it so people like bmdubley could postwhore it all over the internet, about the horrors of the police state we live in.

I guess if our rights are so stupid we should just have them taken away. I guess if cops really are that stereotypical of dealing with crazy people everyday out to get us we really should give them more power. I guess. I guess some of the people above me have led really sheltered lives and I guess I would probably till I was this red talking to them.

I replying in general to the comments above that believe the guy video taping this is abusing his rights, should be beat, is stupid etc etc etc....
if you really believe that, I GUESS all those rights should be taken away right?....i mean some rights are stupid and others aren't right? I guess we should start a referendum to get these rights revoked! or better yet add a clause allowing officers to let people bare arms but then beat the shit out of them after the camera is off!....
I dont think you get what this guy was doing. He was exercising his rights rather then being completely forth coming. He could of made things be less awkward but he didn't have too. MANY officers who are put in awkward situations and who are used to dealing with us nice people, overreact and taser/arrest/beat people like this person.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL2Z5BcN4io
is a good example of an awkward situation. The cyclist could of apologized if he made a mistake and been of nice, or he could exercise his rights...and prove how some officers can overact. As the OP has said, the officer was acting as a officer of peace not an officer of the law. An officer keeping the peace does not escalate a situation. Thats why we need thousands of officers of peace and not of law.
