New DriveClean testing for 2013 for '98 and up

Does this mean that when an MIL/CheckEngine light is on, the car is guaranteed to FAIL? Will the shop refuse to do the driveclean when the idiot light is ON? What if you clear the CEL before heading to the DriveClean shop?

firbster 03-15-2013 08:46 PM

yes , if the light is on it is an fail, no test will be done, if you clear the codes the "monitors"will be reset so no light, but you can not pass the test until all monitors are run and in ready state, if your car is older than 2001 your permited 2 not ready monitors and still pass, but it a fickle thing to pull off, you can do that and they will tell you to drive it for 24 hrs and retest, if not ready again you can get a condition pass..

My 91 is safe even though it has a check engine light

My local garage is pretty good where they pre-qualify you before they start the test to save you $.

maxbmw 03-18-2013 04:31 PM

What do you mean pre-qualify and where is this shop?

The new emission test is done via obd port, no longer thru the tailpipe. Renewed Ca$h Grab by the province?

What if the airbag light is on ? Does that have anything to do with E-Test ? ?

starbuck 03-20-2013 11:58 PM

No it does not

They ask questions like if the battery was disconnected, or check engine light reset, etc. just to avoid the not ready condition resulting in the initial test charge which is kind of them to save the customer some money.

so what about pre 98 cars? what if they have CEL on but pass the sniffer?

Alextorobto 03-21-2013 06:09 PM

what about 92s 325is??????

Regrardless of whether or not the CEL is on, the client has the option to go ahead with the e-test, or look into having it diagnosed and repaired prior to doing the test. They're just made aware that there is still a charge pass or fail.

I'd say 99% of the cars tested with the CEL at my facility has failed, the odd one somehow went through.

there are multiple threads on this

some older cars are allowed to have the cel on and/or some monitors not ready(1-2 ...double check) while newer cars have to have them all ready

propr'one 03-22-2013 01:50 PM

98-2000 cars can have 2 monitors not ready, 2001+ 1 monitor not ready.

I quickly read that so it appears pre 98 is just sniffer test as usual, but then what happens when you have a standalone?

propr'one 03-22-2013 03:40 PM

from my reading if you're 98+ and standalone you're ****ed. we'll see what happens.
