Hey,
It's funny you ask, I just installed an aux-in into my 2005 E46 yesterday and I took pictures as I went. I ordered the OEM cable from the following: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E46-Auxi...-/350154917607 I watched this first to familiarize myself with the procedure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=logGSmvNnwY The OEM part kit has instructions for installation for the aux-in jack in the glove box but I decided I wanted it in the center console. All you'll need is plastic trim tools (you can buy a full set at Sears for ~$20), a phillips screwdriver, a drill, and a couple of drill bits. It took me about 2 hours to complete. Here are a few of the pictures... Cheers, Scottie |
wow...sorry for the huge images!

Possible to make it USB?

I only wanted aux-in it but it's possible, see an example here:

Is there a way to do this on cars with no "Mode" button?
|
I seem to recall that the aux-in option is only present after a certain manufacturing date...I'm guessing you're deck is a cassette only?...If so, you may have to look at getting yourself a new head unit.

Lots of views here. What do you guys think of my choice to place the jack in the center console rather than the glove box?

I put mine in the sunglasses holder cubby, nice and tucked away.
