How could they not put the E36 M3 in there?

I never understood why BMW sacrificed so much performance for luxury in the M models. Aren't these cars supposed to be MOTORSPORT variants of their respective series? I've lost all interest in these new cars they are releasing. My passion and love for the M3 died with the E90. Even though the E90/92 is a bit heavy it still manages to retain some of that true M essence. That CSL sounds unreal... gives me goosebumps every time I hear that raw induction noise.
