I have the same problem... I'm going to try to find out how the power is connected to the headlight switch and the parking lights.

good luck with that.
It must be another splice to metal piece somewhere.

Just gonna be hard to figure out which one.
Right now my setup is just like yours.
Frustrating that the parking lights are still there, but still a big improvement.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Yea those 2 missing wires (where I had 5 and you guys have 3) must be the left parking lights + [right parking lots + dash lights] respectively.

So you guys both have 93s?

ThisGuy310 11-11-2009 05:46 PM

Yeah, I have a 93 coupe.

Do you know for certain that the interior lights and parking lights were one the same wire?

Dan Bro 11-11-2009 10:01 PM

Yeah I also have 1993 325IS ..... I just find it so hard to believe that the dealership would spend so much time to actually wire the whole car like that.... there has to be a simpler way.

In 93 you have a DRL coding diode. If I get it right, to have the park/tails/interior lighting only working with the light switch, all you have to do is remove fuse 22 in the underhood fuse/relay box.

Try and confirm if it works please because this is only from reading the diagrams.

Just tried this

removing fuse 22, makes it so that the fogs no longer work, also the interior lights go off at position one, but also go off again at position three.

So just to clarify, if I do this mod will it eliminate my drls and will I still be able to use high beams? Also Dr.Flyview how come in your e36 pic your high beams look the way they do?
Is this an effect?

Dr. Flyview 12-06-2009 01:41 PM

This mod will work if you can find the aforementioned wires. You should still be able to use everything as they do in Europe, except now you can actually turn everything off if you want.

My highbeams look like that because I have "city lights" in the housings. Little 5W bulbs that are like the "DRL" in Europe. I've wired them to the corners so I can turn those off too if I wish.

aaron320i 12-06-2009 11:47 PM

Honestly I dont know whats going on. By the looks of it the 93 doesnt have it and now what I find to be the 95 doesnt have it either.

Dr. Flyview 12-07-2009 12:04 AM

So you have a 95? What's the production date? You may have the DRL relay.

aaron320i 12-07-2009 01:05 AM

yuppp jan 95.
so im playing with the relay and so Im getting power in and power out for the high beam.
now ive noticed a drop of about .10 in voltage after going through the relay.... im trying to find the change in amps.

aaron320i 12-07-2009 01:56 AM

Lucky me I realized the relay is also changing voltage....ie there has to be a better way in which im going to see if I could just swap the drl relay for a highbeam relay

Dr. Flyview 12-07-2009 08:54 AM

If you have DRL in your highbeams, your car uses the DRL relay and you can simply get the US relay. Us early 95s and lower have the LOW BEAMS hard wired on all the time.

aaron320i 12-07-2009 06:09 PM

Well I just rewired the relay and bypassed it....works beautifuly
As for the 93s I am going to research because I hadnt known that their drls were the low beam.
